Welcome to 2021

We hope this introduction to the 2021 Grassroots Motocross season finds everyone in your family safe and ready for spring to arrive.  We have been busy in the background and you will be seeing regular updates now that we are able to provide some plans for the coming year.

Looking back at 2020…

We can feel a collective pride in what we were able to accomplish last summer, thanks to our promoters diligence and belief in our ability to pull off a series.  And all of the support staff-Robert and his Medic crew, Roger and the rest of the referee corps, and Stefan and Sydney for doing such excellent work with the sign in and transponders.  You all stepped up and became part of a new direction and we were able to collectively run a tremendously efficient race day.

2020 Year End Awards.jpeg

To our motocross community:

We hope this note finds you well, and that you and your families are staying safe as we battle through COVID.  This last 6 weeks has made us appreciate even more the opportunity we had to get out and race this past summer.  Obviously with our current COVID situation a year end banquet is impossible.

Thanks to Russ Beaudette at RPM Graphx for his outstanding work in assembling our year end Championship Trophies, with awards for the top 5 in each class.

These awards will be distributed to dealerships throughout the province (by Friday, October 23rd), as close as we reasonably can to your hometowns and will be available for pick up during normal business hours of each dealership.  Please ensure that you are following COVID protocols when picking up your awards.

Thanks again for a great summer.

That's a wrap for 2020!

As many of you are already aware, Grassroots 204, along with Brett Konkin at Transcanada Moto Park, made the decision late last week to cancel the last race of the season in Brandon due to the Provincial Government increasing their restrictions in the region due to a spike in COVID cases.  We all felt it was in our best interest of both the safety of our members and our reputation as a sport.  We had planned to present our year end championship trophies at the conclusion of the race in Brandon as COVID would not allow us to have a year end awards banquet this fall.

Further to this, we made the decision last night to make Grunthal our last race of the 2020 season.  We believe that with the spike in COVID in our province we aren't willing to risk one more weekend of racing as we believe there is much more to lose than there is to gain in the end.  We have, along with each promoter, established strong working relationships with the regional health authorities and we want to ensure this relationship remains intact come spring 2021.  At this point we feel that this decision reflects our long term vision for a strong start to the 2021 motocross season.

Grassroots 204 would like to thank the promoters for their excellent work this past season, both on and off the track as we navigated our way through this pandemic.  Each track and their staff delivered an excellent weekend of racing, and our combined communication was seamless.

We have many more people to thank, including our staff behind the scenes and of course our advertising partners as well.  For now we wanted to get this information out  to all of you so that you can go about making plans as a family for what is left of this glorious summer.  Finally and most importantly, we would like to thank all of you for your support this season. We know that we introduced a great deal of change, and naturally there was some initial skepticism with our plans.  And COVID did not help!  So we want to thank all of you for giving us an opportunity to execute our vision for what we believe motocross can look like in Manitoba.  And thanks for cooperating with our COVID protocols as this allowed us to go racing.  In the end, we feel like we all kind of stole this summer of racing, and we did what practically no one else did in the country.  We went racing!  And we had a tremendous turn out and steady growth in many classes throughout the summer.  It was worth every bit of stress and struggle.

Stay tuned for more news in the coming days.

Cheers,

204GMoto

Riders Meeting

WEEKEND IN REVIEW

Zhoda International Raceway provided an exceptional race track this past weekend, so thanks goes out to Daryl Burmey and his family and crew for their efforts.  The entire facility was pristine and the parking lanes were COVID exceptional!  Thanks goes out to the 50cc parents for their cooperation during intermission at the mini bike track for staying and running their motos back to back.  The mini bike track was also perfectly prepped and we even managed to run a line all the way out to use our transponders so it could not have worked out any better.

A few notes from Zhoda that came about that are important to mention here:

  • Once the 30 second board is displayed, a rider cannot signal a call for a 2 minute delay for a bike issue-this has to be done prior to the 30 second board going up.  This also applies to the 2nd gate drop, as the 5 second board goes up as soon as the Head Referee deems it safe for the 2nd drop to go.  The one 30 second board applies to both gate drops.

  • Just a reminder to keep racing UNTIL you get the checkered flag.  You may get 2 white flags because of circumstance, so keep racing.  An official will pull you off the track if the race is complete and you did get the checkered flag but didn't see it.

  • Remember, when going off the track for whatever reason, please re-enter the track in a safe spot in a controlled manner that does not interfere with another rider, while not gaining an advantage in the race.
